Noah Hawley Says 'Fargo' Season 4 A 'Long Shot' To Premiere In 2019

Sorry, “Fargo” fans, it doesn’t look like you’ll be getting season 4 anytime soon.

As we reported recently, creator Noah Hawley has an idea for the eventual fourth season, but as of yet, hasn’t written anything. Not only that, but with the emergence of another FX show he created, “Legion,” and the “Doctor Doom” movie that he is writing and directing, it doesn’t seem like he’s going to have a chance to write it anytime soon.

In a recent interview with The Wrap, Hawley confirms all that, and gives fans the hard truth – we won’t be getting any new “Fargo” in 2019.

“I think realistically we will certainly be filming it next year,” Hawley said. “Mostly just because it’s a winter show. You know, I have to write [the episodes], then we have to prep it, then we have to film it, which means it’s either this coming winter or next winter.”

“Given my schedule with making a movie and posting a movie this summer, and then gearing up to do more ‘Legion’ assuming we get a pickup,” he continued. “It seems like a long shot that I can launch ‘Fargo’ 4 this winter.”

Luckily, it seems as if a fourth season of the show is all-but-confirmed. “Fargo” might not be a ratings juggernaut, but it’s done very well critically, earning numerous awards, and has been a marquee series for FX. However, these shows don’t write themselves, and Hawley is an in-demand creator right now. So, it was inevitable that something like this would happen.

If we were to take what Hawley says and extrapolate, we can predict that it looks like filming would begin next year, at some point. Considering the production value of the show, as well as FX’s release schedule, the odds of “Fargo” getting produced and released in 2019 are slim. That would leave 2020 as the earliest we can see season 4.

In the meantime, if you want more Hawley goodness, check out season 2 of “Legion,” which is premiering April 3 on FX.
