'Avengers: Infinity War' Trailer: Marvel's Epic Superhero Blockbuster

And here we have it, folks. The first footage from Marvel‘s “Avengers: Infinity War.” Get excited.

Directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, ‘Infinity War’ will be the first official Avengers movie not to be helmed by Joss Whedon — a welcome change, if you ask me, after the whole lot of nothing that was “Age of Ultron.” The Russos have already proven themselves adept at this sort of superhero team-up movie; their Avengers-lite film “Captain America: Civil War” contains some of the best multi-hero action sequences ever made.

Over a year ago, Joe Russo was saying that ‘Infinity War’ would be “a big sprawling ambitious movie[,] about as ambitious as movies get and it should be, and the title alone indicates that there will be an incredible scape and scope to it.”  Brushing past Russo’s odd and possibly incorrect usage of the word “scape,” it certainly seems as though the gargantuan blockbuster is shaping up to be about as ambitious a film as has ever been devised in the corporate boardrooms of a multi-billion-dollar superhero cinematic universe studio. As the Avengers and their allies have continued to protect the world from threats too large for any one hero to handle, a new danger has emerged from the cosmic shadows: Thanos. A despot of intergalactic infamy, his goal is to collect all six Infinity Stones, artifacts of unimaginable power, and use them to inflict his twisted will on all of reality. Everything the Avengers have fought for has led up to this moment – the fate of Earth and existence itself has never been more uncertain.
