'Gemini Man' Trailer: Young Will Smith Takes On Old Fart Will Smith For Director Ang Lee

Audiences are no stranger to de-aged actors in films. Brad Pitt, Patrick Stewart and a whole host of MCU actors have appeared as younger versions of themselves on screen. What we don’t see quite as often as a performer playing against a younger version of themselves for an entire movie. Ang Lee’s “Gemini Man” is getting ready to change that.

This film is finally on its way to theaters after being stuck in development hell for two decades. That might very well have been a good thing, because there’s no way the technology existed in the 2000s to make a 50-year-old star Will Smith look convincing as a man in his early 20s. The results are truly breathtaking.

Smith told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year, “The physical challenges of making this film have been the most demanding of my career. I’m 50 years old now, and I don’t know that I would have had the experience to play a 23-year-old me [earlier in my career].”

The first trailer, which dropped back in April, shows a de-aged Smith looking as fresh as he did in his “Bel-Air” days. He plays an assassin hunting an impossible mark, which is revealed to be an older version of himself. Will Smith, Jr. and Sr. race to solve the mystery of why they have been pitted against each other.

The “Gemini Man” cast also includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Danny, Clive Owen as Clay Verris, Benedict Wong as Baron, Douglas Hodge, and Ralph Brown.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Henry Brogan is an elite assassin who becomes the target of a mysterious operative who can seemingly predict his every move. To his horror, he soon learns that the man who’s trying to kill him is a younger, faster, cloned version of himself.
