Zach Cregger‘s sophomore feature “Weapons” was the late-summer genre hit of 2025, buoyed by a great ensemble cast, a gripping central mystery, and an Oscar-winning performance from Amy Madigan as Aunt Gladys. Now, Cregger’s next effort, “Resident Evil” looks poised to take theaters by storm again, a little over a year later.
Don’t believe the hype? Well, maybe the new trailer for the horror film will persuade you. Austin Abrams, who had a minor but pivotal role in “Weapons,” stars as a medical courier who suddenly finds himself in a relentless fight for survival.

From the mind of visionary filmmaker Zach Cregger (Weapons, Barbarian) comes a thrilling — and terrifying — reinvention of the Resident Evil franchise. In an all-new story, Resident Evil follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier who unwittingly finds himself in an action-packed, non-stop race for survival as one fateful, horrifying night collapses around him in chaos.
Along with Abrams, Cregger’s new movie also stars Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser.
Along with directing, Cregger co-writes the script with Shay Hatten. Hea also produces the film with Robert Kulzer, Roy Lee, Vitor Hadida, Asad Qizilbash, and Carter Swan. Executive producers include Oliver Berben, Richard Wright, and Robert Bernacci.
