‘Heat 2’: Inde Navarrette May Still Star In Michael Mann’s Sequel As Gabriela, Odessa Young In Consideration For Charlene Shiherlis, Eiza González For Elisa

As reported yesterday, Inde Navarrette was in talks to play Charlene Shiherlis in Michael Mann‘s “Heat 2” before turning down the role to star in Marvel‘s new “X-Men” film. However, according to Nexus Point News, the actress may not be done with Mann’s sequel entirely, as Navarrette is reportedly in consideration for another female role, albeit not one as significant as Ms. Shiherlis.

According to the outlet, the actress remains a possibility for the role of Gabriela, a significant character in the storyline set in 2000 in Mann’s 2022 novel (a child actress would play Gabriela in the earlier timeline). Of course, there are several other female roles on “Heat 2” to be filled as well, and NPN had some scoop there, too. Eiza González is in talks to play Elisa, an early addition to Neil McCauley’s gang (and love interest of Neil’s); an obvious choice for Mann, considering similar roles González played in “Baby Driver” and elsewhere. As for Charlene Shiherlis? Odessa Young is the latest name in consideration for that part. Casting for the sequel remains ongoing, and, as of now, no decisions for the ensemble are final.

Here’s the official castings for “Heat 2” so far: Leonardo DiCaprio will play Chris Shiherlis, originally played by Val Kilmer; Christian Bale is Vincent Hanna, who Al Pacino played in the 1995 film; and Stephen Graham will play Neil McCauley, Robert DeNiro‘s part in “Heat.” Jason Clarke is also part of the ensemble, with Adam Driver being eyed for the main villain role.

An adaptation of Mann’s 2022 novel of the same name, “Heat 2” is the sprawling, globetrotting sequel to the 1995 crime masterpiece, alternating between two timelines and focusing on Chris Shiherlis’ exile to South America and subsequent rebirth as an enforcer for an international crime operation. But fate sees Shiherlis have to head back to Los Angeles, where Detective Vincent Hanna still wants to track him down.

Along with directing, Mann also adapts his novel for the big screen. He also produces the film with Jerry Bruckheimer, Scott Stuber, and Nick Nesbitt. Amazon MGM Studios is also very high on “Heat 2,” with talks of another sequel already happening.

Stay tuned for official casting news about “Heat 2” as the summer wanes.
