It looks like Steven Yeun has yet another high-profile Netflix project on the way. Deadline reports that the actor will star in “Pagan,” a new supernatural drama series from “Say Nothing” creator Joshua Zetumer. “Pagan” comes after Yeun won an Emmy for his role in “Beef” Season 1, “The Rip” opposite Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, as well as the upcoming film “Animals,” also starring Affleck.
But what is “Pagans” about? The dark dramedy centers on Yeun’s Gus, who becomes the sole caretaker of his two children after the tragic loss of his wife. But while his son is a typical kid, his daughter Alice is anything but, and the already strained father-daughter relationship soon takes a sinister turn. Zetumer will serve as showrunner on the series, and executive produce alongside Drew Goddard and Sara Esberg via Goddard Textiles, Jonathan van Tulleken, Erica Kay, and Yeun and Christina Oh via Celadon Pictures.
“Pagans” was a massive get for Netflix during the bidding war for the spec script last year. Reports had 15-18 studios, platformers, and streamers looking to scoop it up, with Netflix giving a straight-to-series order last September. That easily makes the show the biggest project of Zetumer’s career beyond “Say Nothing.” Other writing credits for Zetumer include the 2014 “Robocop” reboot, 2016’s “Patriots Day,” and uncredited script revisions on the 007 film “Quantum Of Solace.”
“Pagan” marks Yeun’s first TV role since winning an Emmy for “Beef.” Other recent non-Netflix credits include Bong Joon Ho‘s “Mickey 17” and “Bubble & Squeak,” another project he and Oh produced via Celadon.
Stay tuned for more details on “Pagans” as they arrive, like who will star in the series opposite Yeun.
