What does one of Britain’s most distinctive bands do after reuniting for a triumphant tour? MUBI has released the official trailer for “Pulp: What Do You Do For An Encore?,” a new documentary chronicling Pulp’s unlikely ascent and enduring connection with its audience.

Directed by the band’s longtime collaborator Garth Jennings and narrated by frontman Jarvis Cocker, the film combines footage from Pulp’s 2025 tour with four decades of previously unseen archival material. The result charts the group’s circuitous journey from Sheffield outsiders to cultural icons without losing sight of the misfit sensibility that helped distinguish them from their Britpop peers.
The documentary features 20 songs spanning Pulp’s career, placing the band’s live performances alongside its history of incisive social commentary, sardonic humor, and sincere empathy for the people inhabiting Cocker’s lyrics. The new trailer finds Cocker and his bandmates reflecting on time, survival, and the peculiar experience of returning to the stage after decades together.
Jennings is best known as the filmmaker behind “Son of Rambow,” “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy,” and the animated “Sing” movies. He has also maintained a long creative relationship with Pulp, directing music videos for songs including “Party Hard,” “A Little Soul,” and “Help the Aged.”
“Pulp: What Do You Do For An Encore?” was edited by Barney Pilling (“The Grand Budapest Hotel”) and produced by Octavia Peissel for Opal Films, Danny Gabai and Amy Rattray for VICE Studios, and Paul Dugdale. Cocker and Jeanette Lee are among the executive producers.
MUBI will hold one-night-only theatrical previews across the U.S. on September 24 before the documentary begins streaming exclusively on the platform worldwide on September 25.
