Plain White T's Song 'Hey There Delilah' Being Developed As A TV Series And I'm Officially Broken

Last week, I wrote an article saying that the new reboot of “ALF” was the bottom of the barrel, so to speak. And with that show, we had officially reached the end-times of “Peak TV” or the “Golden Age of TV.” I take it back. I take it all back. Give me 1,000 “ALF” reboots. You know why? Because today is a dark day. Today is the day we found out that producers are working together to bring the Plain White T’s song “Hey There Delilah” to TV as a scripted series.

Yes, the horrible song that made you want to punch someone in the summer of 2007 is now being developed into a “scripted romantic dramedy,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Developed by Lively McCabe Entertainment and Primary Wave, which includes the Plain White T’s frontman Tom Higgenson, “Hey There Delilah” would feature a plot revolving around a long-distance relationship.

“It’s been more than a decade since ‘Hey There Delilah’ was released, and people always ask me about it. A whole lot of people really connected with that song, and I’m very proud of that,” Higgenson said. “I’m so excited to have an opportunity to give a new generation the chance to form their own connection with the song, and fall in love with its story through this new project.”

“‘Hey There Delilah’ is a perfect example of an iconic story song that has introduced characters and a premise to a massive multigenerational audience, and is begging to be expanded into a full-length story for contemporary television audiences,” says Lively McCabe Entertainment co-president Barra. “Lively McCabe is thrilled to be working with Tom, Deb and Jeremy to bring it to life on the screen.”

“ALF” come save us! Aren’t there a million other horrible IPs out there ready to be adapted? Or how about a million other songs that are actually great? No, instead we’re getting a sappy ballad by a one-hit wonder that will infect your brain and never let go.

And if the song hasn’t truly taken over your mind while reading this article, please play the video below. You, too, must join me in my misery.
