It took Terrence Malick twenty-five years to make his first three films — "Badlands," "Days Of Heaven" and "The Thin Red Line." Which makes it all the more extraordinary to see the rate that the director's currently working at: last year's "The Tree Of Life" followed only fifteen months later by (the unfairly derided) "To The Wonder." But even before that film premiered at Venice last month, the reclusive auteur had already wrapped on another film, "Knight Of Cups," and was already underway on yet another, initially titled "Lawless," which will almost certainly have wrapped by the time "To The Wonder" hits U.S. theaters next year.
And as Malick's work rate speeds along, more and more stars line up to appear in his films even knowing that there's a very real possibility that, as with Rachel Weisz, Barry Pepper and Michael Sheen in "To The Wonder," their part may end up entirely on the cutting room floor. The last few months have seen Christian Bale, Natalie Portman, Cate Blanchett, Joel Kinnaman, Frieda Pinto, Teresa Palmer, Imogen Poots, Wes Bentley, Antonio Banderas, Isabel Lucas and many others spotted on the set of "Knight Of Cups," and with filming on the new, untitled project underway, another award-winning actress has turned up for Malick.
The film formerly titled "Lawless" was known to bring Bale, Blanchett and Portman back to the project, with Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara also involved, and now set photos found on Celebrity-Gossip.net by a reader (thanks, Felipe!) reveals that Oscar-winner Holly Hunter has been filming alongside Portman. After spending a few years on the small screen on TV show "Saving Grace," Hunter is, as well as reuniting with her "The Piano" director Jane Campion on TV series "Top Of The Lake," making inroads back to features, cropping up recently in "Won't Back Down," and wrapping a part in Diablo Cody's directorial debut.
As ever, there's no real news on who Hunter is playing (could she be Portman's mother?), and no guarantee that she'll make the final cut, but as long-time Hunter fans, we're delighted to see someone of her caliber working with Malick again. The Untitled Terrence Malick Project is currently filming, and will likely hit theaters some time after "Knight Of Cups," probably in 2014 or 2015. Take a look at some set photos below.
