'Hot Tub Time Machine' Director Steve Pink To Helm R-Rated 'Werewolves Of Reseda' Horror Comedy

Speaking of, Steve Pink, the director of “Hot Tub Time Machine,” is now attached to direct the Brian Charles Frank ensemble comedy “Werewolves Of Reseda.” Pink, known for writing “High Fidelity” won’t be penning this one. Instead, according to /Film, though honestly their sourcing here reads odd, and they’re not trumping it as an original report either, Brian Frank is penning this story which is vaguely dubbed as a ensemble wish-fulfillment R-rated comedy (like “The Hangover”) with a horror twist. Let’s just he remembers who stole every goddamn scene in “Hot Tub Time Machine” (a certain former “The Daily Show” correspondent).

Meanwhile, “Hot Tub Time Machine” star Lizzy Caplan, who also has a small role in Danny Boyle’s “127 Hours,” says there were “many, many, versions” of the ‘Hot Tub’ script. We’re not sure what that means other than they probably tried 1,000 different ways to come up with utterly ridiculous and absurd jokes. This is our belated way of saying, the ludicrous “Hot Tub Time Machine” kinda ruled and while narratively a mess, it was rather hysterical and just as funny as say the slightly overrated, “The Hangover.” We never did review it because well, we weren’t invited to any screenings. We’d like to think this is why the film failed at the box-office. But that kind of sucks because Rob Corddry, was absolutely off his tits in the film, playing his character like he was hoovering cocaine the entire time and consistently making us laugh with amusing comedic bon mots and wtf? moments. We kinda heart you “Hot Tub Time Machine,” you silly mess of a time travel film. Oh yeah, and it had heart — just a smidgen, not like the Apatow kind, that woulda been dumb. Caplan was a big part of the *cough* “soul” of the film and it had knowing references to the classic John Cusack film “Better Off Dead.” What more do you want?
