'The Hustle' Trailer: Anne Hathaway & Rebel Wilson Are Modern Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

The con is on. If you’ve been thinking “it’s about time for a female remake of “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels,” then you’re in luck this year. “The Hustle,” starring Rebel Wilson and Anne Hathaway as the two con-women, is set for release this May and its first trailer has just dropped.

Not much had been previously been revealed about the story other than it stars Wilson and Hathaway as “two women from very different walks of life who compete to take down a young male tech billionaire and con him out of his fortune. But as the contest goes on, it soon becomes apparent to the women that they may have more in common than either initially thought.” Sounds like it’s sticking to the original story, beat by beat.

But, it’s nice to see a remake that doesn’t feature the exact same title as the original. This will be the second remake of the “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” story, which originated as 1964’s “Bedtime Stories” starring Marlon Brando and David Niven, before its first 1988 remake which starred Steve Martin and Michael Caine. This new version will be the directorial debut of Chris Addison, best known for acting and producing in Armando Iannucci works such as “The Thick of It,” “In the Loop,” and “Veep” – so seems like we’ve got trust-worthy comedy hands at the helm.

Unlike the original two, “The Hustle appears” to be going harder and raunchier, resulting in an R-rating for “some crude sexual references” which certainly sounds nasty in hopefully a comedy-positive way

MGM Pictures will release “The Hustle” in cinemas on May 10. Check out the first trailer and let us know what you think.
