The upcoming film follows Cannavale as Max Bernal, a former late-night comedy writer whose transition to stand-up didn’t quite work out. With his career and his marriage on the skids, an autistic son, and now stuck living with his dad, Max decides to shake things up. He’ll kidnap his son, go on a cross-country road trip with him, and try to regain control of his life. What could go wrong, right?

“Irresponsible Behavior” also stars Robert DeNiro as Max’s father, Rose Byrne as his wife, and introduces William Fitzgerald as his son. The movie also stars Vera FarmigaRainn Wilson, and Whoopie Goldberg, and Goldberg’s “Ghost” co-star Tony Goldwyn, who also directs the film.

Goldwyn directs a script by TV vet Tony Spiridakis, with the film being produced by William Horberg of Closer Media with Jon Kilk, Spiridakis, and Goldwyn. It’s Goldwyn’s directed feature since 2006’s “The Last Kiss,” but he’s directed episodes for several TV shows since then, including “Scandal” and “Justified.”

“Tony Spiridakis is a spectrum father, and he wrote a script whose lived-in truth, humor and grace are evident on every page,” said WilliamHorberg in a press release for the film. “Tony Goldwyn has always been drawn to great material, as an actor, producer and filmmaker, going all the way back to our days working together on “Ghost” at Paramount. Seeing this story that celebrates neurodivergence come together with this amazing cast and team makes us feel incredibly fortunate and thrilled to be making this as our first film at Closer Media.”

Pre-production for “Inappropriate Behavior” is already underway. Expect a late 2023/early 2024 release for the film, courtesy of Wayfarer Studios.
