'The Irishman' Wins Best Picture From New York Film Critics Circle

Choices were certainly made as the New York Film Critics Circle determined their year-end awards bestowing Best Film to Netflix’s “The Irishman.” The Martin Scorsese drama took the same honor from the National Board of Review just one day earlier.  In a slight surprise, Best Director went to brothers Benny and Josh Safdie for A24’s “Uncut Gems.”

Antonio Banderas and Lupita Nyong’o landed much needed Oscar assists taking Best Actor for Sony Picture Classics’ “Pain & Glory” and Best Actress for  Universal Pictures’ “Us,” respectively.

Supporting Actress went to Laura Dern for both Netflix’s “Marriage Story” and Sony Pictures’ “Little Women” (perhaps a wee bit for the second season of “Big Little Lies” as well?) while Joe Pesci landed a Best Supporting Actor honor for his work in “The Irishman.”

Quentin Tarantino earned some recognition for “Once Upon A Time in Hollywood” as the Sony release earned a Best Screenplay nomination.

“I Lost My Body” took Best Animated Feature while “Honeyland,” the lone Sundance Film Festival title among this year’s NYFCC winners, won Best Non-Fiction Film.
