Isabelle Huppert's Guiltiest Pleasure Is To Imagine Herself As A "Sadistic And Manipulative Murderer"

Actress Isabelle Huppert is one of the most decorated European actresses ever. She’s been nominated 16 times for a César Award, winning two. She has one Golden Globe win, as well as an Oscar nomination. And she has won Best Actress twice at the Cannes Film Festival. Needless to say, Huppert is basically acting royalty. That’s what makes her answers to some questions in a recent interview so interesting.

One might think that an actress as critically-acclaimed and well-known as Huppert wouldn’t be the first person admit that she fantasizes about being a murderer. In an interview with the Guardian, the actress is asked what her guiltiest pleasure is. Surprisingly, she says, “Imagining myself as a sadistic and manipulative murderer, like something out of a book by Agatha Christie.”

But then again, maybe that shouldn’t be so surprising and speaks to her ability as an actor; she’s able to keep these dark secrets hidden away without anyone knowing. And judging by some of her performances, she would make a pretty frightening murderer if she so desired.

Huppert was also asked what her superpower would be if she could choose. Flight? Nope. Telepathy? Not at all. Figuring out Brexit and stopping an inevitable war with Trump and North Korea? Yes! “Being able to reverse Brexit. And to reconcile Mr. Trump and Kim Jong-un, even if I had to play golf with them,” says Huppert.

The interview also goes through her biggest fear (being stuck on an elevator) and asks who she would invite to a dream dinner party. To that she swings for the fences, going for some big names, that would surely lead to some incredible conversation.

Plato and all the gang from the banquet [in his Symposium] – Socrates, Phaedrus, Aristophanes. And then Flaubert, Marie Curie, Leonardo da Vinci and the Danish film director Carl Dreyer,” Huppert answers.

The real question is who would Huppert murder at that dinner party?
