'It: Chapter Two' Trailer: Evil Resurfaces & The Losers Club Face Off Against Pennywise Again [Comic-Con]

Immediately following the runaway success of the 2017 “IT” remake, it stood to reason, then, that a sequel would surely follow. And this September, we’re getting one. Andy Muschietti directed the film, working from a script by “Annabelle Comes Home” writer/director Gary Dauberman. “IT: Chapter Two” follows the Losers’ Club members as adults who’ve been separated for decades. Now, as they reunite in Derry, Maine, an old evil comes to bring new terror to the quiet town. You can catch glimpses of this in the all-new, full-length trailer below. Check it out!

Starring James McAvoy, Jessica Chastain, Jay Ryan, Bill Hader, Bill Skarsgard, Isaiah Mustafa, James Ransone, and Andy Bean, “IT: Chapter Two” puts the Losers’ club back into the clutches of Pennywise the Clown, a terrifying entity who maimed and killed Georgie Denbrough, the younger brother of McAvoy’s Bill Denbrough. Georgie’s death catalyzed the events of the first film and resulted in Pennywise’s temporary defeat. As the trailer above shows, the horrifying clown is back and more determined than ever.

Both “IT: Chapter Two” and its 2017 predecessor are based off Stephen King‘s 1986 novel of the same name. The Bible-sized book was King’s 22nd novel and the 18th with his real name attached to it. The book divided critics. Many thought the story warranted two novels, while still more questioned why King’s perplexing, even disturbing decision to write a child orgy into the book. Here’s the official synopsis:

Evil resurfaces in Derry as director Andy Muschietti reunites the Losers Club—young and adult—in a return to where it all began with “It Chapter Two.” The film is Muschietti’s follow-up to 2017’s critically acclaimed and massive worldwide box office hit “IT,” which grossed over $700 million globally. Both redefining and transcending the genre, “IT” became part of the cultural zeitgeist as well as the highest-grossing horror film of all time. Because every 27 years evil revisits the town of Derry, Maine, “It Chapter Two” brings the characters—who’ve long since gone their separate ways—back together as adults, nearly three decades after the events of the first film.
