Jason Blum Would Love A 'Get Out' Sequel But Says Jordan Peele "Has No Intention" Of Making One

Ask most horror fans and they’ll say that “Get Out” is a great example of an amazing film that doesn’t need a sequel. Sadly, too often in the horror genre, a film that has strong reviews and earns a lot of money is automatically turned into a franchise. But Jordan Peele’s “Get Out” probably shouldn’t ever be thought of as a potential franchise. Thankfully, it appears that Blumhouse founder, Jason Blum, doesn’t see a point when Peele would want to revisit “Get Out” for a sequel.

Speaking to Observer, Blum was asked what he thought about making a potential “Get Out” sequel. This comes after comments he made to Variety a couple of years ago that hinted to the possibility of a “Get Out 2.” Back in 2018, Blum made headlines when he said that Peele was “flirting with the idea” of doing a sequel to the hit horror film. But now, two years later, the producer is backtracking, just a bit.

“That was wishful thinking,” Blum clarified. “I think that was taken out of context. I think what I said and what I would still say is, I would love to make a Get Out sequel but we would only do it if Jordan wanted to do it and as far as I know, he has no intention of doing that.”

Of course, back in 2018, the idea of a sequel probably did seem a little more interesting to Peele. But after the financial and critical success of “Us,” as well as the various other projects that Peele has on his schedule, he probably doesn’t feel the desire to retread on something just for financial gain. He’s already proven that he can do other things.

Blum, on the other hand, has made a name for himself as the horror guru that is able to turn a $10 million budget into a blockbuster film. And he’s regularly turned those hits into franchises, such as “The Purge,” “Insidious,” “Sinister,” “Halloween,” and “Paranormal Activity,” to name several. So, it makes sense that he’d be the first person in line to make a “Get Out 2.”

Thankfully, even Blum knows that the decision to do so is completely dependent on Jordan Peele. And it appears that the filmmaker isn’t even considering it. Score one for artistic integrity!
