Jesse Eisenberg, Isabelle Huppert & Gabriel Byrne To Star In Joachim Trier's 'Louder Than Bombs'

nullOne filmmaker who’s a favorite around these parts is Norwegian Joachim Trier. The writer/director’s first two features “Reprise” and “Oslo, August 31st” are impressive and expressive works, and so when it was announced well over a year ago that his next effort would be his English-language debut, we were very excited. In fact, this script was ready to go after “Reprise,” but delays held it up, so Trier shot ‘Oslo’ instead. But it appears the wait has been worth it as he’s assembled a solid trio to lead the movie.

Jesse Eisenberg, Isabelle Huppert and Gabriel Byrne are on board the movie drama, which has a pretty interesting premise. Previously described as utilizing a “Rashomon“-style plot conceit, the story “revolves around the character of a famous, late war photographer played by Huppert. On the eve of a retrospective of work, some three years after her untimely death, her husband and two sons discover an unsettling secret from her past.”

Ron Yerxa and Albert Berger (“Election,” “Cold Mountain,” “Little Miss Sunshine“) are producing, and we had heard at one point Ryan Gosling was being sought for the lead. And while that didn’t pan out, it’s hard to argue with this cast. Production begins this fall. Could we see this in the Cannes line-up next year? Fingers crossed. [Screen Daily]
