JJ Abrams' Bad Robot Developing New Supernatural Film 'The Pinkerton'

After gaining headlines for signing a massive deal with Warner Bros., JJ Abrams and his Bad Robot production company have their sights set on the first project. No, this isn’t the “Man of Steel” sequel you were hoping for. Instead, it appears that Bad Robot has a new supernatural film in mind titled “The Pinkerton.”

According to Variety, Bad Robot’s first Warner Bros. production is a film titled “The Pinkerton,” based on a script by Daniel Casey. While details about the plot are being kept a secret, for now, judging based on the title, we have an idea of what the film could be about. (And no, it’s probably not the long-awaited musical drama based on the 1996 Weezer album.)

Created by Allen Pinkerton in 1850, the Pinkerton National Detective Agency is likely the basis for the film. The big claim to fame by the agency is how the service supposedly thwarted a plan to assassinate President Abraham Lincoln in 1861. I don’t know about you, but that sounds like an interesting plot for a film, huh? Of course, with Bad Robot involved, there’s likely a big mystery at the center of the film, with plenty of supernatural elements. Aliens? Clones? Time-travel? Who knows?

Either way, this is likely going to be a big-budget extravaganza. Bad Robot isn’t in the business of doing small films. Previous projects released by the production company include “Cloverfield,” “Star Trek,” “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation,” “Mission: Impossible – Fallout,” “Overlord,” “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” and “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.”

The screenwriter, Daniel Casey, is a bit of an unknown in all of this. Before this film, he reportedly worked with Abrams on “10 Cloverfield Lane,” and he wrote the script for the thriller “Kin.” However, he is also the screenwriter behind the upcoming films “F9” and “Leo from Toledo.”

No word on when we might see “The Pinkerton” arrive in theaters.
