What sorcery is this? “Justice League Dark” has returned from the dead to be resurrected by one of Hollywood’s most powerful players and his gigantic studio.
Deadline is reporting that JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot, through their lucrative new deal with Warner Media, will be developing both television and movie projects based around DC Comics’ “Justice League Dark” property, which began in comics form 2011 as a magic-and-monsters alternative to the traditional superhero team-up Justice League.

As you might remember, “Justice League Dark” was being developed for many years by writer/director Guillermo del Toro, whose team included John Constantine, Swamp Thing, Deadman and Zatanna (among others). Eventually, del Toro walked away and Doug Liman took over on the project but he too left to focus on other films (including “Chaos Walking,” a movie that seems to be cursed). Footage surfaced online from Joseph Kahn of a walk cycle he had created for a completely computer-generated Swamp Thing, which looked really cool and suggested that the “Bodied” filmmaker at least pitched on the project, but nothing came to fruition.

It’s unclear who in the Bad Robot camp will be tackling the projects, what is envisioned for both television (a “Constantine” show recently aired on the CW with the character moving on to other “Arrowverse” TV properties) and movies, and what the team line-up will be. Since Abrams announced his partnership with Warner Media, Bad Robot’s involvement with DC Comics characters has always been a source of speculation. Now it looks like we know at least one corner of the DC Extended Universe that Abrams and his team will explore.
