John David Washington Cast In Christopher Nolan's Upcoming Still-Untitled "Event Film"

We don’t know a plot yet, or even a title, but we now know who is going to be the man starring in the upcoming “event film” from filmmaker Christopher Nolan. Fresh off his breakout role in “BlacKkKlansman,” John David Washington has landed the lead in the upcoming epic.

Again, there’s no word yet on what exactly Washington’s role will be, as the film is being kept under a veil of secrecy. However, it was recently reported that Nolan’s latest can be described as “North by Northwest” meets “Inception.” That being said, in Variety’s casting report, that claim has been refuted, but alas, no other comparisons could be made, other than what we could already expect from a Nolan-directed film.

The report says, “One insider described the pic as a massive, innovative, action blockbuster, which will again be shown in Imax.”

Huh, you don’t say? Not to sound rude, but that’s exactly how you can describe pretty much every recent Nolan film, so let’s just say the news is far from a revelation.

As mentioned above, Washington broke out in a big way last year with his starring role in Spike Lee’s Oscar-winning film “BlacKkKlansman.” However, the actor really got his start on the HBO series “Ballers” and was also seen last year in films like “Monsters & Men” and “Old Man & the Gun.” And yes, he is the son of Denzel.

We should be getting more information about Nolan’s upcoming film in due time, as production is said to be ready to go for later this year. Given the release date is next summer, that is to be expected.

The as-yet-untitled Nolan film will hit theaters on July 17, 2020.
