Jon Favreau Is "Holding Out Hope & Being Optimistic" About Sony/Disney 'Spider-Man' Deal

As we go into the weekend and the beginning of Disney’s D23 convention, the big topic of conversation regarding the Marvel properties is the recent drama surrounding Spider-Man. With Sony and the Mouse House not being able to come to an agreement about how to integrate the hero into the Marvel Cinematic Universe moving forward, it appears that there are big changes in store for the ‘Spider-Man’ film franchise.

However, one actor involved in the most recent Spidey outing, “Spider-Man: Far From Home,” is optimistic that a deal will be worked out. Jon Favreau, who plays Happy Hogan in the MCU, was seen in a flirtatious relationship with Aunt May in the most recent film and would love to see that duo explored more in the future.

“You never know what’s going to happen. I’m holding out hope and being optimistic that this isn’t the final chapter of the story between those characters,” Favreau said to Variety while attending D23.

He added, “Aunt May and Happy were quite a couple. As an actor, I had so much fun working with Marisa [Tomei] and Tom Holland.”

Of course, the fact that the relationship between Aunt May and Happy Hogan really just got off the ground in ‘Far From Home’ is one of the many plot threads from the recent ‘Spider-Man’ films that won’t be able to continue in the future, if Sony and Disney don’t work out some sort of deal.

Favreau joins Jeremy Renner and others as supporters of a new deal coming together. Renner recently posted a plea on social media for Sony to give the character back to Disney/Marvel Studios. Obviously, Sony isn’t going to just hand Spider-Man over, but it’s fair to say that most fans want to see the series continue with Feige and Marvel Studios involved.
