Julianne Moore To Star In New Apple Series, 'Lisey's Story,' From Writer Stephen King & Producer J.J. Abrams

A couple of weeks ago, Apple held a truly odd presentation for its new focus on subscription services. In addition to a News+ service, a new gaming platform, and a credit card, the tech company formally announced its Netflix-killer, Apple TV+. And in doing so, the company trotted out some of the biggest names in Hollywood to talk about content and explain why Apple is going to revolutionize storytelling. Or something like that. Either way, the company probably should have waited because a new series has just been announced and it sounds like it might be the most interesting of the bunch.

Deadline is reporting that Julianne Moore is teaming up with Stephen King and J.J. Abrams to bring the series “Lisey’s Story” to the streaming service. “Lisey’s Story” is based on the King novel, but unlike recent adaptations of his work, the author has a very hands-on role in this new series, as he’s the credited writer for all six episodes.

For those not familiar with the novel, “Lisey’s Story” follows the titular woman as she deals with the devastation of losing her husband. However, over the course of coming to terms with his death and sifting through his belongings, the widow begins to remember and discover portions of her husband’s life that she has forgotten or repressed.

“Lisey’s Story” is just one of a few separate projects that Abrams and his Bad Robot production label have in development over at Apple. But this is instantly the most interesting, as Moore is an Oscar-winning actress, who really has attached herself to unique and intriguing projects in recent years. And to top it off, this is a King adaptation, which is all the rage nowadays, with “Pet Sematary” being the most recent success story and “It: Chapter 2” coming later this year.

Obviously, there’s no release date for the series, as of yet.
