'Justice League' Storyboard Artist Confirms "Snyder Cut" Exists...Kind Of

Right off the bat, we have to say this – the “Snyder Cut” of “Justice League” is most likely never going to see the light of day.

For those that haven’t been following DCEU news since “Justice League” hit theaters last November, there is a passionate group of fans that have been doing everything in their power to encourage Warner Bros. to release a version of the film that is 100% Zack Snyder’s vision for the film. There have been conflicting reports that Snyder was even around the production for long enough to complete his vision (before director Joss Whedon stepped in and finished). However, according to one crew member, Snyder’s vision was not only filmed, but it was actually assembled and edited.

Artist Jay Oliva, who worked on “Justice League” as a storyboard artist, was asked on Twitter about the mythical “Snyder Cut.” He tweeted, “I think they are responding to people saying that the Snydercut (prior to Whedon’s involvement) does not exist and is not a cohesive story because Zack left. It may not be 100% polished but all of the planned scenes were shot and edited into a full timeline.”

“What I meant with 99% is that all of the scenes Zack envisioned was shot and exists in one form or another. Of course there are still vfx that is unfinished but I never inferred that the film was 99% done. Rather that Zack’s vision was all shot except for a few reshoots planned,” he continued.

As you might expect, this fuels the fire of the Snyder fans desperate to see his take on the superhero team-up film. However, even though the director edited together the footage he shot, it doesn’t mean that this is some sort of cohesive film. Oliva admits that the visual effects are still unfinished, which if you’ve seen any superhero film, you know that VFX are vital to telling the story. No one wants to see Henry Cavil flying around on a wire in front of a green screen, for example.

To the Snyder Cut Believer, this is confirmation that Warner Bros. has a version of the film just sitting on the shelf, waiting for its Blu-ray release, which is obviously not the case. That being said, the news definitely does lend credence to the idea that Snyder did complete the production of his film and WB just wasn’t happy with it and wanted large portions redone (thus hiring Whedon).

So, yeah a cut of the film overseen by director Zack Snyder does probably exist. However, the finished “Snyder Cut” is still just a fantasy. Sorry, guys.
