Keri Russell & Jesse Plemons To Star In Director Scott Cooper's New Thriller 'Antlers' Produced By Guillermo Del Toro

Scott Cooper is a filmmaker that always seems to be on the cusp of hitting the big time. That isn’t to say the director has been making small, no-budget indie projects. Cooper’s films are often headlined by major stars such as Christian Bale (“Hostiles” and “Out of the Furnace”), Johnny Depp (“Black Mass”), and Jeff Bridges (“Crazy Heart”). But that being said, Cooper hasn’t quite had that major crossover hit, yet. But with his latest film, “Antlers,” it looks like the director has put together a project and group of collaborators that might just lead to something huge.

Fox Searchlight has just announced that production has gotten underway on Cooper’s latest film, “Antlers.” The film follows a young teacher and her brother, who happens to be a sheriff, as they become intertwined in the life of a student that is harboring a dark, supernatural secret. What that secret is remains a mystery, but “Antlers” is sure to be a departure for Cooper, as he now makes a play in the supernatural thriller/horror genre. Luckily, he’s teamed up with an incredible cast and none other than Guillermo Del Toro to help navigate the new waters.

“I couldn’t be more excited to begin production on ‘Antlers’ with Guillermo Del Toro, and reunite with my dear friends at Fox Searchlight,” said Cooper. “They’re incredible filmmakers – not to mention necessary filmmakers – and are extremely passionate and supportive of my vision as I venture into yet another genre, and delve into the unnerving world of ancestral spirits.”

“We are delighted to be back in business with Scott Cooper, with whom we had an incredible journey on the Oscar-winning ‘Crazy Heart,’ and Guillermo Del Toro, fresh off ‘The Shape of Water,’” said Fox Searchlight Chairmen Nancy Utley and Steve Gilula.

Added Fox Searchlight Pictures Presidents of Production, Film and Television Matthew Greenfield and David Greenbaum, “Scott is a master of creating human dramas with unforgettable performances. ‘Antlers’ will allow him to bring his unique gifts to the horror genre. We could not be more thrilled.”

Del Toro is producing “Antlers,” coming off his Oscar-winning “The Shape of Water.” And joining the amazing cast are Keri Russell, Jesse Plemons, Jeremy T. Thomas, Graham, Scott Haze, Rory Cochrane, and Amy Madigan.

There’s no release date set, but we can probably expect the film to hit sometime in 2019.
