Well, as fan sentiment around Warner Bros. Discovery deteriorates rapidly thanks to the cancellation of “Batgirl” and the rumors of sweeping changes regarding the future of the DC superhero film universe, it appears there’s one bit of positive news going around— “Joker 2” is finally officially official. And not only do we have the previously announced release date, but Lady Gaga is confirming her role in the film.

As seen in a new teaser tweeted out by Lady Gaga, the actress is officially going to star opposite Joaquin Phoenix in “Joker: Folie à Deux,” which will arrive in October 2024. And if you look a little closer to the short teaser, you’ll see that Gaga’s character is sporting a heart under her eye, which would seemingly confirm that she is, in fact, playing a version of Harley Quinn in the new film.
Not much is really known about ‘Folie à Deux,’ other than it will see the return of Todd Phillips as writer and director. There are reports that the film will be a sort of musical, which the little teaser seems to also back up. If that’s true, then the “Joker” sequel is shaping up to be a really interesting film that might once again play with fans’ preconceived notions about what it will actually be like. Because if the fan reaction to the initial reports is any indication, folks are torn about whether or not they’re excited about a “Joker” sequel starring Lady Gaga and featuring musical numbers.

As mentioned, the future of the DC superhero film universe is seemingly in flux right now. “Batgirl” was canceled. Michael Keaton’s cameo in “Aquaman 2” is replaced by Ben Affleck. And there’s really no reason to believe that more changes will be happening soon. But at least we know “Joker: Folie à Deux” is happening and will be released on October 4, 2024. So, there’s that.
