'The Bikeriders': Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer & Austin Butler To Star In Jeff Nichols' New Biker Drama

Believe it or not, it’s been six years since we’ve last seen a Jeff Nichols film. Sure, back in 2016, we were lucky enough to get the release of “Midnight SpecialandLoving,” but since then the filmmaker has been a bit silent. That’s about to change with the new film, “The Bikeriders.”

According to Deadline, Jeff Nichols is set to write and direct a new film, “The Bikeriders,” which is going to have a really impressive cast including Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, and Tom Hardy. The film is inspired by the photography of Danny Lyon and his 1967 book, “The Bikeriders.” The story will follow a fictional midwestern motorcycle club that starts as a fun social club but morphs into something more sinister and bad over the course of a decade.

As mentioned, it’s been a while since we’ve seen a new film from Nichols. He’s probably best known for his films “Take Shelter” and Mud,” released in 2011 and 2012, respectively. However, “The Bikeriders” wasn’t expected to be his next feature. Back in 2020, the filmmaker was brought on to write and direct the new prequel for “A Quiet Place.” The filmmaker was attached to that project for more than a year when he departed and was replaced by Michael Sarnoski. He was also attached to an “Alien Nation” TV series that didn’t survive the Disney/Fox merger.

But that’s all water under the bridge considering his next film already has an all-star cast. Comer is probably best known for her role in “Killing Eve,” which won her an Emmy. Butler, most recently, broke out in a big way thanks to his leading role in “Elvis.” He’ll next be seen in “Dune: Part Two.” And, of course, Hardy is an A-lister with a number of major projects under his belt. His most recent film was “Venom: Let There Be Carnage,” the second in his ‘Venom’ franchise.

A release date for “The Bikeriders” has yet to be announced. The film is hoping to begin production in October.
