The Caretakers Have A Party In 'The Last Jedi' Deleted Scene

Recently, there was a “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” deleted scene released that gave more context to the Finn/Phasma confrontation. It didn’t add a whole lot to the film, and it was clear why it was cut. However, in new deleted scene that we found on Twitter, it looks like there was a scene that hit the cutting room floor that sheds some light on the Caretakers of Ahch-To, and damn it, it should have been in the movie!

In the deleted scene, we see Rey running to save the Caretaker village, after seeing what looks like fire and potential trouble. With lightsaber in hand, Rey bursts through a wooden wall to see the Caretakers not in any trouble, but instead dancing and having a party. An awkward moment ensues, with Rey feeling like a complete idiot. However, at one of the Caretaker’s insistence, she does use the lightsaber as a party favor. Rey then meets up with Luke, who told her about the Caretakers being in danger, and they have a bit of a disagreement.

Overall, the scene does two things. One, it gives us more of the Caretakers, who were underused and wasted in the final film. And two, it showed more of Luke “teaching” Rey about the Force. Granted, if you hated the characterization of Luke in ‘The Last Jedi,’ this will only infuriate you more. However, if you enjoyed Rian Johnson’s film, you’ll probably enjoy this extra bit of character interaction.

Obviously, with the two-and-a-half hour run time, scenes had to be cut in the film, and this is clearly a scene that was extraneous. It does show that Johnson had more story to tell. But like anything with this film, you are either going to hate it or love it. It seems as if there’s no middle ground with ‘The Last Jedi.’

Either way, it was pretty fun seeing R2-D2 and Chewbacca enjoying a party, right?
