'The Last Movie Star' Trailer: Burt Reynolds Takes A Victory Lap

When is a movie from tastemakers A24 not a movie from A24? When it’s conspicuously absent from their own website. Yep, “The Last Movie Star” isn’t rubbing elbows with Oscar contender “Lady Bird” or festival faves “Lean On Pete” and “Hereditary.” But reassured, this movie is from the studio, who have partnered with DirecTV to bring it into the world.

Burt Reynolds take the lead role in the film, and to be honest, it feels like an eon since we’ve seen him in the lead of anything worthwhile. At any rate, he doesn’t stretch too far, playing an aging celebrity who gets one last hurrah at a film festival honoring his career, only to find out it’s a budget operation. Here’s the synopsis via Yahoo:

Reynolds plays Vic Edwards, an aging celebrity (the “No. 1 box-office star for five — no, six — years in a row”) who accepts an invitation to attend a film festival honoring his long career, only to show up and discover the event is barely even bush league. The festival takes place, for example, at a bar barely big enough to fit a red carpet.

Written and directed by Adam Rifkin (“Detroit Rock City“), and co-starring Ariel Winter, Clark Duke, Ellar Coltrane, Nikki Blonsky, and Chevy Chase, “The Last Movie Star” debuts exclusively on DirectTV February 22nd and will be released in theaters March 30th by A24.
