'Les Miserables' Miniseries On The Way From The Team Behind 'War & Peace'

I didn’t watch the miniseries adaptation of “War & Peace” earlier this year, but that’s on me, because by most accounts it was pretty good. So, as I figure out some time to square away and catch up, the team behind the show are moving ahead and taking another classic property to the small screen.

THR reports that The Weinstein Company and the BBC are teaming up for “Les Miserables.” Andrew Davis, who penned “War & Peace,” will take Victor Hugo‘s tome and spread out the story across six episodes, that will include expanding on the narrative portions that weren’t included in the hit musical, which is probably the most popular adaptation of the book. Of course, there was most recently Tom Hooper‘s middling movie from 2012, which was handsomely mounted but emotionally peaked right in the middle with Anne Hathaway‘s performance of “I Dreamed A Dream” (which propelled her to an Oscar win).

No word yet on a director, cast or start date, but it’s probably safe to say that every step of the way will be heavily scrutinized by fans as the film was. But at least in this case, the series won’t have the burden of trying to match the stage show.
