Lizzo, Lil Nas X & Billie Eilish Lead 2020 Grammy Nominations

The Recording Academy announed the 2020 Grammy Nominations on Wednesday morning and history was made. Lizzo led all nominees with eight, but both she Billie Eilish landed nods in the top four categories: Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Best New Artist. They become the first two artists to ever pull that unique feat off.

Eilish and Lil Nas X earned six nominations overall. Ariana Grande, H.E.R. and Finneas O’Connell, Eilish’s older brother, earned five nominations.

The 17-year-old Eilish also became the youngest artist to be nominated in all of the four major categories. Mariah Carey previously held that record at the age of 20 in 1990.

Notable snubs this year included Halsey, Miley Cyrus, Sam Smith, Carly Rae Jepsen and Megan Thee Stallion.

In media related nominations, Beyonce’s “Spirit” and “Lion King” inspired album combined for three nominations.  Beyonce’s “Homecoming,” which was snubbed at the Emmy Awards, earned a Best Music Film nomination.  Lady Gaga’s “Always Remember Us This Way” from “A Star is Born” earned a Song of the Year nomination.   “A Star is Born” also took a Best Compination for Soundtrack for Visual Media along with “The Lion King: The Songs,” “Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood,” “Rocketman” (credited solely to Taron Egerton) and “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”

Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media nods went to “Avengers: Endgame,” “Chernobyl,” “Game of Thrones: Season 8,” “The Lion King” (Hans Zimmer) and “Mary Poppins Returns.” Best Song Written for Visual media nominations were awarded to “The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy from “Toy Story 4” (Randy Newman), “Girl in the Movies” from “Dumplin'” (Dolly Parton & Linda Perry), “I’ll Never Love Again” from “A Star is Born,” “Spirit” from “The Lion King” and “Suspirium” (Tom Yorke) from “Suspiria.”

Because the Oscars moved up to Feb. 9, the Grammy Awards are historically early this year.  They will be broadcast live on CBS on Jan. 26.
