Luce Edgar (Kelvin Williamson Jr.) is a high school senior who grew up with an adopted family after he immigrated to the states from a war-torn country. Beloved by his friends and faculty alike. He’s on the school debate team, track team, and an A average student. He’s the American teen dream, with a charming smile and a clean record. However, one of his teachers Harriet Wilson (Octavia Spencer), doesn’t believe he is the boy everyone thinks he is. Ms. Winslow becomes involved when one of Luce’s class history papers raises red flags.

Full of violence and vitriol, Ms. Winslow has a sit down with Amy (Naomi Watts) explaining she should be more observant of her son’s behavior. I got the quick opportunity to speak with Oscar winner Octavia Spencer and Oscar nominee Naomi Watts about the details that get to the heart of their characters. Both women gave insightful answers I didn’t expect, and engaged with an understanding, and deep respect for the script and its larger connections to the real world.
