Marc Maron Says Comic Book Movies Are For "Grown, Male Nerd Childs" But Fails To Mention His Role In Upcoming 'Joker'

Marc Maron isn’t a comic book movie fan. And in a new interview on Conan, he made that abundantly clear. The comedian/actor was asked if he saw “Avengers: Endgame,” as the film has broken just about every record. In his response, Maron decided to not just admit that he hadn’t seen the new ‘Avengers’ film but to also explain why.

“I didn’t see [‘Endgame’]. I’m proud of that, but no one cares,” said Maron.

Why didn’t Maron check out the latest ‘Avengers’ film that is now the biggest film of all time? Well, the actor says that he’s just not the target audience for these films, as they’re made for, uh, less mature men.

“I have some issues with them and I generally don’t like them,” said the actor. “I don’t want to be bullied into seeing those movies. I’m a grown-up. I’m not seven. And I think those movies are for grown, male nerd childs.”

The audience definitely responded to that last statement, but Maron didn’t back down. He admits that these “nerd childs” do dictate popular culture, but he’s not happy with it.

“I have to travel 20 to 30 minutes to a smaller theater to see a grown-up movie with other grown-ups, where we can all sit together and not understand the ending,” Maron joked. “That’s part of the experience.”

Of course, the irony is that Maron’s next big film is the upcoming “Joker,” which is based on a comic book character, who happens to be one of the most popular villains in all of superhero comics. Maybe it’s not great marketing to alienate the core audience for your film, but as Maron said in the interview, he’s not going to change his ways now. Hell, you gotta admire that.

“Joker” arrives in theaters on October 4.
