Marc Webb To Direct 'Lord Of The Flies'-Meets-'Lost' Series For Netflix Featuring 'Big Little Lies' Star

It looks like Netflix is going back to the YA well, after massive success with “13 Reasons Why,” for one of its many upcoming series. According to The Wrap, actress Kathryn Newton has earned the lead role in what is being described as a series that combines “Lord of the Flies” with “LOST.”

The currently untitled series, coming to Netflix, follows a group of young teens who arrive back from a school field trip to find that the population of the town is missing and they’re unable to escape. From there, the teens have to develop their own society as they attempt to find out what happened to the rest of the town.

The series is being developed by Chris Keyser and Marc Webb, who will both executive produce. Keyser, who will also serve as a writer, is probably best known for creating “Party of Five,” but has also worked recently on the series “The Last Tycoon” and “Tyrant.” Webb, of course, is the filmmaker behind movies like “500 Days of Summer” and the ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ films. He will serve as the director.

If the name Kathryn Newton doesn’t ring a bell, it should. The young actress has starred in the critically-acclaimed series “Big Little Lies.” She also has had supporting roles in incredible films like “Lady Bird” and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.” Newton will next be seen in the highly-anticipated Julia Roberts film “Ben is Back.” And if those credits weren’t enough, Newton also starred in the way-better-than-it-should-have-been “Blockers.”

Production is set to begin on the untitled project in September, which would indicate that there’s a 2019 release planned.
