Max Von Sydow In Talks To Join David Fincher's 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' As Henrik Vanger

With Rooney Mara’s casting yesterday as the titular cyberpunk sleuth Lisabeth Salander, the pieces look to be coming together for David Fincher’s adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.”

The film will see Daniel Craig star as journalist Michael Blomkvist; Robin Wright as love interest Erika Berger while Stellan Skarsgaard is in line to play Martin Vanger, president of Vanger Corporations. Word had it that Fincher would be utilizing Swedish accents for his film (Ellen Page had reportedly been asked to practice one) so it should come as no surprise that more native talent would be coming on board.

Buried in Variety’s piece about the film’s prospects is a note that iconic Swedish thespian Max Von Sydow is said to be in talks to play retired industrialist Henrik Vanger, Martin’s uncle and former CEO of Vanger Corp. The legendary actor has played bit part role in a few Hollywood productions of late including Martin Scorsese’s “Shutter Island,” Ridley Scott’s “Robin Hood” and Joe Johnston’s “The Wolf Man” and looks like a great addition to this project. And still, with an array of characters vacant and promises of a “star-studded” cast, we expect some bigger names to fill out the supporting roles.

Production on the project begins next month on location in Sweden, with a December 21, 2011 release date lined up.
