Got a Tip?

Neill Blomkamp Says His ‘Alien’ Movie Has Been Put On Hold Due To Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’ Sequel

Neill Blomkamp, ‘Alien’ FranchiseIt would seem the writing was on the wall about Neill Blomkamp‘s proposed "Alien" movie earlier this year. At the end of the summer, rumors suggested that Ridley Scott was none too pleased about Blomkamp’s developing movie, and urged Fox to produce and release his "Prometheus" sequel, "Alien: Paradise Lost," first. In the months that followed, Scott confirmed that was the plan, revealing he was shooting ‘Paradise Lost’ next, and suggesting Blomkamp’s picture would be released in 2017. However, it seems like we might have to wait longer.

Last night, Blomkamp hit Twitter to reveal his movie was now on hold due to ‘Paradise Lost,’ and he was turning his attention to other projects. What exactly those projects are isn’t clear, but those of you who were looking forward to Sigourney Weaver kicking alien ass one more time, this is bound to be disappointing news. It always seemed a bit odd that Fox was pursuing both a direct sequel to "Prometheus" and Blomkamp’s picture which he said would follow "Aliens," but not reference "Alien 3" or "Alien: Resurrection." Even Scott could only vaguely explain where Blomkamp’s movie fit in the timeline. So maybe Fox decided to keep things simple, while also perhaps seeing how audiences respond to ‘Paradise Lost.’

So, in short, you only have to think about one new "Alien" movie, for now. Thoughts? Are you bummed to see Blomkamp’s picture get halted? Let us know below.
