Netflix Renews 'The Witcher' For A Second Season More Than A Month Before The Show Is Released

When you pour large sums of money into one season of TV, with the incredible production budget and an A-list star like Henry Cavill, it makes sense that Netflix would want to keep “The Witcher” around for as long as possible. However, in a bold move, the streaming service has decided that it wants even more episodes than it originally signed on for, a full month before the show even premieres.

According to the official Netflix Twitter account, the streaming service has already given the green light for a second season of the highly-anticipated fantasy series “The Witcher.” This means that the seven-season plan that showrunner Lauren Hissrich has been mapping out will at least have the first two parts come to fruition.

“The Witcher” is the upcoming series that is based on the novels by author Andrzej Sapkowski and tells the story of Geralt of Rivia (Cavill), a monster hunter. The story follows him as he’s joined by a sorceress and a princess on adventures that take him all over the realm. The novel series includes seven novels and has already been adapted into a very popular series of video games.

No word yet on when production for the second season might begin. With the large scale of the series, it’s likely that the second batch of episodes will take quite a bit of time to produce. So, in all likelihood, it’ll be at least a year before we see the second season. However, with the first season not being released until December 20, there’s still plenty of time.
