We first heard about Jay Roach’s upcoming film, “Fair and Balanced,” back in May, when it was revealed that the director was working on a film about disgraced Fox News Chief Roger Ailes. At the time, it was reported that the film would feature an all-star ensemble of actors to portray the various Fox News anchors, including Megyn Kelly, Gretchen Carlson, Bill O’Reilly, and Greta Van Susteren. Today, we found out who’s going to portray one of those roles.
Variety is reporting that Academy Award winner Nicole Kidman will portray former Fox News anchor Gretchen Carlson in “Fair and Balanced.” Carlson, of course, was one of the many women at the news channel to allege that Roger Ailes had sexually harassed females in the workplace. These allegations ultimately led to his ouster from the network.
Kidman recently won an Emmy for her work on the HBO series “Big Little Lies,” and has a string of high-profile films on the horizon, such as awards-hopeful “Boy Erased” and the blockbuster “Aquaman.” She joins a cast that reportedly already includes Academy Award winner Charlize Theron as Megyn Kelly, one of the other women who contributed to Ailes’ exit.
“Fair and Balanced” is directed by the aforementioned Jay Roach, based on a script from “The Big Short” writer Charles Randolph.
The film is also not the only Roger Ailes-based project in the works currently. Just over a month ago, it was reported that Russell Crowe had signed on to play the disgraced newsman in a Showtime series that is going to tell the story of Ailes’ departure.
No word on a release date or any other casting at this time, but surely, “Fair and Balanced” is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films in production.
