Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron & Joey King To Star In New Netflix Rom-Com From Director Richard LaGravenese

Over the years, Netflix has proven there’s still good business in the rom-com. The streaming service has made a habit of releasing rom-coms on a fairly regular basis since it appears they always seem to be big hits. Well, the latest rom-com to get the Netflix treatment could be its biggest yet.

According to THR, Richard LaGravenese is set to direct an untitled rom-com starring none other than Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron, and Joey King. The film is co-written by LaGravenese and Carrie Solomon, who recently was announced as the screenwriter behind the Margot Robbie-led “Ocean’s 11” prequel film. The rom-com is said to follow the romantic follies of a mother, a young woman, and her movie star boss. THR says the film will explore the “complications of love, sex, and identity.” So, yeah, whatever that means.

La Gravenese is probably best known for directing films such as “P.S. I Love You” and “Beautiful Creatures.” His most recent directorial outing was with 2014’s “The Last Five Years.” Previously, as a screenwriter, he penned scripts for films such as “The Bridges of Madison County,” “Beloved,” and “The Fisher King.”

While Joey King and Zac Efron are no strangers to rom-coms, especially the former, as she starred in the hugely popular “Kissing Booth” trilogy, Nicole Kidman is the real surprise in the cast. Her most recent work includes her Oscar-nominated performance in “Being the Ricardos” and in Robert Eggers’ Viking thriller, “The Northman.” Other than that, Kidman has also made a name recently as one of the A-listers who has embraced TV work the most with series such as “Big Little Lies,” “The Undoing,” and “Nine Perfect Strangers.”

A release date for the untitled rom-com has yet to be announced, but filming is expected to begin later this summer.
