Oscar Isaac Says 'Moon Knight' Is The "First Legitimate Marvel Character Study" Since 'Iron Man'

Without a doubt, Oscar Isaac is one of the best actors working today. So, when it was announced that he would be joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe in “Moon Knight,” fans were excited to see what Isaac would bring to the character and the MCU, in general. While we’re not 100% sure what to expect with “Moon Knight,” Isaac is ready to tease that fans should be expecting something they haven’t seen since “Iron Man” back in 2008.

Speaking to Empire, Oscar Isaac teased the new Disney+ series, “Moon Knight,” and what makes him really excited about playing the superhero in the MCU. For the actor, it appears “Moon Knight” is a bit of a return to the days of “Iron Man” and character study superhero stories.

“Often on these big movies it can feel like you’re building the plane on the runway,” Isaac explained. “The idea of getting back to ‘handmade’ films, character studies… I was desperate for that feeling.”

He added, “[‘Moon Knight’] felt ‘handmade.’ And it’s the first legitimate Marvel character study since ‘Iron Man’…I thought, ‘Maybe I can hijack this thing. Maybe this is the chance to do something really fucking nutty on a major stage.’”

For those who aren’t familiar with the “Moon Knight” mythos, the series tells the story of Marc Spector, a former SpecOps soldier who finds himself dealing with his Dissociative Identity Disorder while also (maybe) being imbued with the power of the Moon from the Egyptian god, Khonshu (who is voiced by F. Murray Abraham in the series). Needless to say, this is a character with a lot of layers, and that’s something that excited Isaac.

“What I love most about this thing is that it’s an exploration of a mind that doesn’t know itself,” he said. “A human being that doesn’t know his own brain. I found that really moving: what the mind is capable of as far as survival. But the workload was massive: the technical challenge of embodying these different characters, physically, the way I manifest my body… It required a lot of energy.”

As if fan expectations weren’t already sky-high for “Moon Knight,” the comments from Oscar Isaac sure do make the series seem like something truly special. We’ll see how everything turns out in “Moon Knight,” which debuts on Disney+ on March 30.
