2018 Oscars Best Picture Nominee Supercut

This year, the Academy Award Best Picture nominees are definitely one of the most diverse groups in recent memory. With films like “The Post,” “Darkest Hour,” and “Phantom Thread” sitting next to the likes of “The Shape of Water,” “Lady Bird,” and “Get Out,” you have to wonder which film has the edge.

What you definitely can’t imagine is how those films plus “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” “Call Me By Your Name,” and “Dunkirk”, could be mashed up into a single, cohesive video. Leave that to Jacob T. Swinney over on Vimeo, who has created a highly entertaining six-minute-plus mash-up of all nine Oscar films into an energetic and fun video. Fair warning – you might not want to watch this at full volume while you’re at work since there’s a fair share of cursing thanks to Lil Rel Howery and Frances McDormand. There are also some spoilers in the there too.

After watching Swinney’s video, you are immediately going to remember the musical choices throughout. Towards the end of the video, he quickly recaps each film by showcasing a bit of music used in the movie. You get “Imagine” by John Lennon immediately followed “Redbone” from Childish Gambino. That’s a pairing that no one would ever think to combine. There are also musical appearances by John Williams, Hans Zimmer, and Sufjan Stevens with his incredible “Mystery of Love.” It’s amazing just how much the music for each nominated film is instantly recognizable.

Overall, this is a great video to get you hyped for the upcoming awards show and to remind you what a terrific year in film we had.
