Oscars Producers Reportedly Orchestrating An Onstage 'Avengers' Reunion To Offset Lack Of Host

We finally know who’s going to replace Kevin Hart as host of the upcoming Oscars ceremony – no one. That’s right, the Academy has decided to forgo the option of having just one host for the annual awards show in favor of multiple hosts that would be featured in a variety of ways. And while we don’t know the exact specifics of who these celebrities will be or how they’ll be used, we do know one group that ABC is desperately trying to get to make an appearance – the Avengers.

According to a new report from THR, the people behind the Oscars telecast are doing their best to secure an onstage reunion for the cast of the mega-blockbuster “Avengers: Infinity War.” Exactly who the Academy is able to land from the ranks of Marvel Studios’ franchise is anyone’s guess at this point.

And before you start rolling your eyes and thinking to yourself, “The Oscars are going to trot out the cast of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Ugh,” remember the 2013 broadcast. As THR points out, six years ago, after the massive success of 2012’s “The Avengers,” the Academy reunited the titular team on stage for a bit, which included Robert Downey, Jr, Chris Evans, Samuel L. Jackson, Jeremy Renner, and Mark Ruffalo. But let’s be real, in 2019 standards, only featuring five actors from the ever-growing franchise is hardly anything groundbreaking.

With over two dozen major characters, the MCU features a much more diverse, and star-studded, cast than it did six years ago. So, if ABC is hoping to make a splash with the biggest names in superhero films, the network is going to need at least 10 actors to show up, right?

Either way, securing the cast of ‘Infinity War’ is a clear attempt to jazz up the ratings for ABC, who seems to be at the forefront of all the controversy to make the Oscars more mainstream. And if this is just an example of how the network plans on doing that, then it would appear that the Academy Awards, the most prestigious awards show in all of the entertainment industry, is only one or two steps away from being the MTV Movie Awards.
