'Pacific Rim 2' Sets 2018 Release Date

The green light took a moment to get turned on, however Legendary and Universal Pictures are getting “Pacific Rim 2” going, but you’re gonna have to wait a couple of years to see it.

The studio has set the film for a February 23, 2018 release date. There’s nothing else booked on that weekend just yet, and I’m going to presume Universal is hoping to piggyback on the December 15, 2017 release date of “Star Wars: Episode VIII” which just happens to star John Boyega, who is also heading up their monster sequel. It’s just a guess, but I think it’s a good one. Otherwise, there are no plot details yet for the movie which will have “Daredevil” writer/producer Steven S. DeKnight at helm, making his feature film debut. That’s a pretty big leap.

So far, the only other cast member announced for the movie is Femi Oguns, who you probably don’t remember from the little seen Reese Witherspoon vehicle “The Good Lie.” Is “Pacific Rim 2” more reboot than sequel? Time will tell.
