Deadline reports that Cage will star in “Parish,” a post-apocalyptic cannibal action-thriller set to hit the TIFF market at the Canadian film festival next month. Concourse Media will launch the project’s world pre-sales ahead of the fest’s start. Read on for a synopsis for the flick, which really needs to be read to be believed:
Set 30 years after a nuclear apocalypse, Parish stars Oscar winner and action vet Cage as “a hardened survivor who has managed to stay alive with his highly trained attack dogs by following one unbreakable rule: never let anyone through the gate. That rule has kept him alive for three decades. But when a desperate woman carrying an infant appears outside his sanctuary, Parish is forced to choose between compassion and survival. His decision exposes the refuge he has spent years building and puts him in the crosshairs of a vicious band of cannibals closing in from the wasteland. With his highly equipped compound under siege and his past finally catching up with him, Parish is forced into a brutal fight to protect everything he has left.”
Adam Sigal writes and directs “Parish”; Simon Pegg fans will recognize that name as the director for the actor’s comedy “Nandor Fodor And The Talking Mongoose” from 2024. Sigal also produced the 2024 sci-fi film “Slingshot” starring Casey Affleck and Laurence Fishburne. Joel Shapiro produces the project via MagiCity Studios with Steven Tyler Sahlein. Other producers include Mark Holder and Christine Holder via Wonder Street, with Matthew Shreder serving as executive producer and financer through Concourse Media; Archetype Media Finance also finances the film.
It’s also worth noting that Sigal has lined up blockbuster cinematographer David Tattersall as the DoP on “Parish.” Tattersall’s best-known credits include the “Star Wars” prequel trilogy, “Tomb Raider,” and Cage’s own “Con Air.” That should give some indication for the scope of this thriller.
Here’s a press statement from Concourse CEO Shreder about “Parish”: “There’s a scale and pedigree to Parish that immediately separates it from the pack, with all the ingredients of a real theatrical event. Nic Cage is an incredible and fearless actor, with an extraordinary group of filmmakers around him who are all setting out to make a sophisticated survival thriller that’s a cinematic event built for a global audience.”
Shooting on “Parish” starts in October in Minnesota. As for Cage, he adds the film to his usual non-stop churn of upcoming credits. He stars next in the biopic “Madden” as the esteemed football coach, and also has the sequel “Lords Of War,” “The Prince,” and other projects on the way.
Stay tuned for who picks up “Parish” once the TIFF market kicks off next month.
