Paul Bettany Keeps Teasing A 'WandaVision' Mystery Character That He Had "Fireworks" Chemistry With

You would think after being part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe for more than a decade (he was an OG cast member as Jarvis in “Iron Man” back in 2008), Paul Bettany would be better about this whole teasing things and not spoiling stuff. Well, as seen in a recent video with Esquire, he still struggles with straddling the line between cheeky deflection and near-spoilers.

The video focuses on Bettany reacting to fan theories and questions regarding “WandaVision,” his new MCU series that is now in the middle of its first season on Disney+. And when the video starts, you can see he’s already uncomfortable answering whether or not the series will explain if Wanda gets the name “Scarlet Witch.”

“Ummmmm…yessss…maybe? No, maybe? I don’t…really know…” he replied.

Not the most convincing answer in the world, Mr. Bettany.

Later, a theory about Mephisto being the big bad for the series gets mentioned. And instead of saying definitively one way or another, or just to claim ignorance, as many of his MCU brethren do, Bettany again teases a spoiler but also backtracks.

“This [theory] that involves Mephisto? I can’t speak to…right now…because I’m worried I’m going to be fired,” he said.

One thing he will talk about is the mystery character that he has been hyping up for weeks now. Many assumed he meant Evan Peters, who showed up as Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver. Well, apparently not. It’s someone else still to come.

“The truth is, of all the characters we were trying to keep secret, a lot of them got out through leaks,” revealed Bettany. “There is one character that has not been revealed and it is very exciting, it’s an actor I’ve longed to work with all of my life. We have some amazing scenes together, and the chemistry between us, I think, is extraordinary. Just fireworks on set. I’m really excited for people to see that stuff.”

Maybe this mystery character ties into the aerospace engineer character that Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) has been talking about on the series? Because the actress also recently teased that fans are going to be very excited to see who that reveal will be.

“When I, well … I can’t wait to see what y’all’s reaction is when you learn with the aerospace engineer is,” Parris said to ComicBook.com.

Well, with only a couple of more episodes left before we learn all the answers, we have to assume things will be revealing themselves pretty quickly.
