The Paul Rudd Vs. Robert Downey Jr. Fantasy Football Feud Is The Silly Distraction We Need Right Now

As I type this, the world continues to burn, as 2020 serves us more and more shit sandwiches. Over this weekend alone, we’ve had the US Presidential Election thrown into chaos as Trump gets diagnosed with COVID-19 and no one can figure out if he’s doing just fine or on his deathbed. Then you had the announcement that the theatrical exhibition industry is on the brink of extinction, as studios continue to delay films out of 2020, and Cineworld shutters hundreds of cinemas in the US and UK. But we have The Russo Brothers to thank for a minor distraction, as they enlist their Marvel buddies to produce fun videos trash-talking each other over fantasy football.

The most recent video is actually the best, as we see Paul Rudd, of ‘Ant-Man’ fame, talking shit to Robert Downey, Jr, aka Iron Man, about who’s going to win the fantasy football matchup between the two. Downey Jr. went first with a minute-long video talking shit against Rudd. But we have to hand it to the ‘Ant-Man’ star who rebutted with a parody of Black Sabbath’s “Iron Man” music video, where he just spends the entire time doing his best ‘70s rock god impression while dropping MCU references that will make fans squee.

With lines such as “Can he win at all? No he can’t, his team sucks balls,” it’s hard not to laugh at Paul Rudd’s trash-talking parody song. Rudd also goes beyond the Marvel Cinematic Universe to make jokes, saying that Downey, Jr’s score is going to be “less than zero,” referencing the 1987 film of the same name that is one of the actor’s early roles.

Earlier videos include trash-talking from Chris Hemsworth and Karen Gillan. Obviously, we can fully expect folks like Chris Evans and the rest of the Avengers to get involved in subsequent weeks, as the Russos’ AGBO Fantasy Football league is packed with major A-list stars. And as the coming weeks are sure to be full of more and more drama, at least we can expect videos of actors being silly and talking about something not related to politics.
