'Peaky Blinders' Will End With A Film After COVID Changed Creator's Plans For The Show

Yesterday, it was announced that Netflix/BBC’s acclaimed series, “Peaky Blinders,” will be coming to an end after the upcoming sixth season. Normally, that sort of announcement means that fans will be disappointed and almost immediately begin petitioning for some sort of sequel, prequel, or spinoff. But the unique thing about yesterday’s announcement is that series creator Steven Knight announced the end of the show, but promised the story would continue in “another form.” And now, we know what form that’s going to take.

According to Deadline, Knight explained further his plans for “Peaky Blinders,” once the show ends its run sometime in the near future. And as you might have guessed, it appears that the story will continue in the form of a film. The who, what, where, when, and how of it all is still yet to be revealed.

“Covid changed our plans,” explained Knight. “But I can say that my plan from the beginning was to end ‘Peaky’ with a movie. That is what is going to happen.”

You would obviously have to expect that the film project will be carried by Netflix and BBC, much like the series has been over its multi-season run. However, what that film will look like, who might star in it, and when it might be released are all questions with no real answers. Mainly, this is because the show just hasn’t been finished yet, so we don’t know who’s going to be left and what story there will be to pick up.

The report claims the original plan was to end the show with a Season 7. Unfortunately, as Knight said, the pandemic changed all those plans and now the show is going to sprint to the end with Season 6. As for the actual film that will end the whole thing, there’s nothing finalized, as it’s probably a bit too premature for that sort of thing.

In the meantime, fans of “Peaky Blinders” will have a whole new season to be excited about before thoughts of the film conclusion. That said, we still don’t have a proper release date or time-frame for when we might see Season 6 arrive on the BBC and Netflix. So, stay tuned!
