Peter Dinklage Teases Tyrion's Fate In 'Game Of Thrones' & Admits 'Rick And Morty' Is The Best Show On TV

Sure, Peter Dinklage is an incredible actor that has been in acclaimed films such as “The Station Agent,” “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri,” and the upcoming “My Dinner with Hervé.” But for most of the general population, the actor is, and will always be, Tyrion Lannister on “Game of Thrones.” And while he had plenty to talk about in a new interview with Vulture about his upcoming ‘My Dinner,’ the conversation turned to ‘Thrones’ and particularly, what fate might befall the smartest Lannister.

Before hinting at what the future might hold for Tyrion, Dinklage took some time to reflect on “Game of Thrones” and the impact the starring role, which earned him three Primetime Emmys and a Golden Globe, has already had on his career.

“I’m glad the show happened in my life when it happened. I’m glad I wasn’t much younger or older. I’d done a lot of work before getting the show that I think informed what I wound up doing on ‘Game of Thrones,’ and, hopefully, I still have a lot of work left in me, which will be informed by ‘Game of Thrones.’ The show was a beautiful experience — doesn’t happen all the time,” said the actor.

When asked about shooting his final scene in the upcoming series finale, Dinklage commented that while it was emotional, it was sure to be anti-climactic, considering the series shoots out of chronological order. That being said, he found not only his final scene, but the end of other actors’ scenes to be just as emotional.

He explains, “But as anticlimactic as it was, my last day was also beautifully bittersweet. A lot of people whom I love were on set that day. Even if they weren’t working, they came to set, which was beautiful. I tried to do the same thing when other [‘Game of Thrones’] actors were wrapping out. If it was their day, you would go to set to say good-bye. It was really hard. I won’t say their name or their character’s name, but one of the young people on the show wrapped this past season and everybody was a wreck. This person had grown up on the show, you know? They were a child and now they were an adult.”

As for where Tyrion Lannister finds himself by the end of the series, that’s not something Dinklage is going to tell you. However, he’s more than happy to explain how he feels it ends for the character and teases that maybe if Tyrion doesn’t survive, it’s still a great ending. “I feel very, very — I’m trying to find the right word. I think he was given a very good conclusion. No matter what that is —death can be a great way out,” he teased.

Switching gears completely, Dinklage says that his favorite show on TV isn’t probably something you’d expect from the dramatic actor — “Rick and Morty.” Not only is the animated series from Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland the best show currently on air according to Dinklage, but perhaps one of the best shows in recent memory.

“That’s the greatest show in the last I don’t know how many years. It speaks to so many things. David [Benioff] and Dan [Weiss] turned me onto it while we were over [shooting ‘Game of Thrones’] in Ireland. I started watching and fell deeply in love. You can dismiss it at first glance…but that show runs deep,” the actor admits.

The final season of “Game of Thrones” doesn’t hit HBO until the first half of 2019. “My Dinner with Hervé” is slated to premiere on October 20. And if you want to see what Dinklage is raving about, “Rick and Morty” is available wherever you get your Adult Swim content.
