Got a Tip?

‘Play-Doh’ Movie In The Works With Paul Feig Lining Up To Direct

nullRemember when movies based on toys like Candyland, Stretch Armstrong, Space Invaders and Lego were announced and everyone laughed? Well, the laughter stopped when Phil Lord and Miller’s game changing The Lego Movie” arrived last year, showing what could be done when these brand extensions are approached with a little bit of creativity and risk. “The Lego Movie” grossed over $450 million worldwide and spawned its own empire of upcoming, sure to be “inter-connected” sequels and spinoffs, and yet proved the naysayers wrong with wit, irreverence and playful four-quadrant humor. So don’t roll your eyes too hard when you read the words below.

Deadline reports that 20th Century Fox and Hasbro are teaming up to bring "Play-Doh" to the big screen. Like Lego, the benefit of Play-Doh is that it’s a blank canvas to work on. Paul Feig, who is currently getting ready to shoot his "Ghostbusters" movie," is in negotiations to direct, with Jason Micallef ("Butter") writing the script.

This is the latest in Hasbro’s growing slate of toy movies, including the brainless "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe" movies, the upcoming, low-budget "Jem & The Holograms," and with "Magic The Gathering" in development. And let’s not forget that its stab at horror with "Ouija" didn’t turn out so well. So there’s a lot of ways this can go, but the involvement of Feig hopefully bodes well.
