Pose, Russian Doll and Fleabag Lead All 2019 TCA Award nominees

The Television Critics Association announced their 2019 TCA Awards nominees this morning and, in the eyes of many, these are the programs and performances that Emmy should reward next month.  In something of a surprise, “Pose” and “Russian Doll” led all programs with four nominations followed by “Fleabag” with three nods and eleven other shows with two. Those three shows were joined in the coveted Program of the Year category by “Chernobyl,” “Game of Thrones” and “When They See Us.”

Outside of “Pose,” “Russian Doll” and “Fleabag’s” haul, there were some notable nominations including “Schitt’s Creek” landing an Achievement in Comedy and Individual Achievement for Catherine O’Hara.  “The Other Two,” “Dead to Me” and “What We Do In Shadows” earned Outstanding New Program nominations.  Netflix dominated the Reality Competition field with four of the six nominations including “Nailed It!,” “Tidying Up with Marie Kondo” and last year’s winner, “Queer Eye” (not one network or basic cable program earned a nod).  In the Movie or Mini-Series category “True Detective” and “A Very English Scandal” were snubbed.

Most notably, five women and just one man earned nods in the Individual Achievement in Drama and Individual Achievement in Comedy categories (“Pose’s” Billy Porter and “Barry’s” Bill Hader, respectively).

HBO led all networks with 15 nods, Netflix earned 14 and FX took eight.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony celebrating the 35th anniversary of the TCA Awards on Saturday, August 3 in Beverly Hills.
