'Ragnarok' Trailer: Netflix's Latest Series Features The Clash Between Norse Mythology And The Modern Era

When you scroll through your Netflix account at the end of the month, you may be taken aback to see something called “Ragnarok’ that isn’t directed by Taika Waititi and doesn’t have the Marvel Studios logo attached to it. That’s because the upcoming Netflix original series, “Ragnarok,” is very different than the ‘Thor’ sequel with the same title.

As seen in the new trailer for “Ragnarok,” the series dives into the life of a new student that just moved into a small Norwegian town. While there, he begins to notice that he’s developing supernatural powers that might actually be linked to the Norse gods of yore. From there, he learns about the war between the gods and giants, dubbed Ragnarok, and how the evil giants are still living today, albeit they run the factories that pollute the world and threaten the existence of human life. So, as you might expect, the young man goes to war against these folks to save the world and find the true nature of his own identity.

“Ragnarok” is yet another foreign-language series that has the chance to catch on in the US, thanks to its supernatural story and its YA, teen drama leanings.

“Ragnarok” arrives on Netflix on January 31.

Ragnarok is a coming-of-age drama building on and contributing to a new and surprising angle on Norse mythology. The series is set in the small, fictitious town of Edda, situated in the grand, breathtaking Norwegian nature. The story revolves around the inhabitants of Edda, who are perhaps not all who they claim to be. With them, we experience a drastically changing world: melting poles, warm winters, violent downpours. Some might say we’re headed for yet another Ragnarok. Unless someone intervenes in time…
